wow political post
So that nut job Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska.

I have mixed feelings about this. This probably means she wont run for president in 2012 now which would guarantee a second term for Obama, but seeing her make a complete ass of herself is such a fun thing to watch.

How should I feel about this? Tell me???

P.S. The fact that one of the characters in my book is named Sarah will not be changed just because there is a real Sarah who is a complete ass and total wacko.

Anime club
I might have found a local anime club. I haven't been yet but I have talked to them and not only would I not be the only old guy there but they have expressed an interest in dice games and think it's cool that I have the BESM book.

The next meeting is on the 16th of next month. I am in the gathering information process but am hopeful :)

Interesting night last night (long but interesting read)
Ok so I just finished watching an old episode of Burn Notice (great show BTW Bruce Campbell rules.) when I start shutting down the house before going to bed. I check the back door which is in the laundry and cat feeding/litterbox room when I notice one of my cats, Koko, is staring at the clothes washer. I try to get her to follow me like she always does, but she is completely ignoring me, so I decide to check under the machine with my flashlight and I notice one of their toy mousies is under there. I get the metal grabbing thing we use for this occasion, and after a few struggling moments I manage to wrench the mouse out from under the machine, dust it off, and toss it into the hallway. Koko had wandered off during this process so I assumed that was that. I worked myself up a bit so I decided to play a few rounds of Warriors Orochi 2 before going to sleep. Half way through a battle I hear the sounds of cats dashing around the house. I figure it's Raziel (my other cat) chasing Koko around the house like he always does, so I try to ignore it. It doesn't stop and I realize I am not hearing the usual growling and hissing that follows this process so I decide to investigate. I go to the kitchen and Raziel is pawing under the white stepping stool we use to get stuff on the high shelves, and Koko is watching from a short distance. A second passes, and suddenly both cats dash past me in a blur. I can tell they are after something but it was too fast for me to get a clear image of it. Raziel often acts this way when playing with one of his toys so I assume he's doing this now and Koko is just along for the ride. So I go to the room they dashed into and both are frantically pawing around the sofa, and Raziel is trying to squeeze under it. I shine my flashlight under the sofa and see two toy mousies and a few dust bunnies. So I once again grab the metal grabby thing and liberate the two mousies and toss them aside. I get up, dust myself off, and replace the metal grabby thing on its hook. It is at this moment that I notice two things. One is that the two toys I removed from under the sofa are different from the one I freed from under the washing machine, and two the cats are still frantically pawing at the sofa. So for the next 20 minutes or so I am looking under the sofa trying to find what they are after, and I see nothing. I am starting to assume they are just in one of their nut ball moods, and I start to once again shut down for the night. On a whim I decide to look behind the sofa, instead of under it. There wedged between the window and the sofa was a real mouse. It was clearly scared to death, but obviously what the cats were after. I decided it's time to wake up the folks, so I go and get my dad and tell him what I saw. He seemed to not believe me at first, but then the cats dashed down the hallway. We followed and a few seconds later we both saw the mouse running towards the room with the washing machine with two murderous felines in hot pursuit. My dad swore a few times, and then went to the kitchen and moved all food items to higher shelves. He did the same with the bags of birdseed and cat food, and then went to bed saying there isn't much he can do right now, and will deal with this later.

The mouse hasn't made another appearance yet, and the cats are acting calm and normal this morning, but since we haven't found evidence of a dead mouse I assume it's still hiding somewhere. Guess we have a 4th pet now, not sure what to do about it.

Rainbow
After a brief rain I saw a rainbow form in a nearby field. I actually saw where it was touching the ground. I didn't even know that was possible.

Unfortunately there was no pot of gold, little guys in green outfits, or a magical girl on a white horse, but still it was pretty neat. I wasn't able to get a picture of it though. :(

I need some help with a hairstyle
A character in my story has a hair style that I am having trouble describing.

After about 2 hours worth of searching I finally found a picture of it.

Does this style have a name or what? And if not could someone possibly help me describe it because I am totally blanking on how to do it.

Well here is a link to the picture I found. I hope it works ok.

What is this called???

Well hopefully someone who sees this can help me otherwise I'll have to default to something

Wait....What?
I guess the fact that no one online is talking about Texas threatening Succession means no one is taking it seriously?

I mean I expected at least one of my politically minded friends to have at least made a passing comment about it but that hasn't happened???

Guess I got nothing to worry about.

Web Comics
I finally caught up with The 10 Doctors (having DSL as opposed to dial up really makes it much more.....well actually possible to read web comics).

I really wish The 10 Doctors was cannon because it is certainly much better then most of what Russel T Davies, or whatever his name is, has come up with. I would have figured a story with all 10 incarnations of the doctor in it to be cluttered, but it actually came together quite well, and continues to do so.

Anyway that's two of my old favorite web comics Ive now caught up with (Closet Space is the other one)

Venus Envy doesn't seem to update anymore so I'll leave that one alone for a bit, I still need to catch up with 8Bit Theater and A Wish for Wings. But I've spent too much time reading today I need to give my eyes a rest.

P.S. If anyone wants a link to any of these comics I'd be happy to provide it they are all quite good.

Yep Yep Yep
Well I haven't worked on my story since the Tuesday before last. I can't figure out what to do with chapter 5. I know what chapter 6 will be but I gotta get to it. I figure I'll give it till next Friday, and if I don't get inspired by then I'll just sit down and write off the top of my head till something good comes out, or at the very least till I get an idea of how to get where I need to go. This has worked before so maybe it will help.

I got my Wii internet cord thingy finally, so if anyone reading this wants to swap friend codes let me know and I'll send you a message with mine.

I downloaded this game for Turbo Graphix 16 called Neutopia this morning. It had been suggested to me by a friend as something I might enjoy. So far it's not bad, it's massively channeling Zelda, but who cares about that as long as it's fun. So far it's worth about $6 which is what I paid for it. I'll let you all know how it is when I get further into it. There is a sequel also available for download, so if this game is good maybe I'll get that one too.

DSL finally
Got my DSL working again thank goodness.

Dial up is like trying to play Super Mario Bros. with your TV upside down while wearing boxing gloves.

One of the first things I did was update my virus scanning software. Found two trojan horses and that's it. I expected more then that but I wont complain.

I'm still at the mercy of what my rather old computer can handle so a lot of online games are still out of bounds for me right now, but my old favorites Neopets and Runescape work a lot better now.

I can run videos with a lot less hair pulling now. An 11 minute video which took 4 hours (no joke) to load with dial up only took about 15 mins with DSL.

It's totally worth it.

Now if I can just get my nintendo Wii cord in the mail (thanks to the idiotic stores around here that don't carry it) I'll be all set. At least for the moment.

Sheva con
Well got back from the con today and it was actually quite fun.

I went to several writing panels and discovered that not only is my style of writing used by many successful authors, the gender swapping character might actually make the story easier to get published rather then harder. This made me feel better.

I helped write a short story about Barney the Dinosaur being an angry drunk with two other authors to thunderous applause and laughter from the people in the room listening to the finished product.

I met the actor who played the original Boba Fett (didnt get autograph though :( ).

I met Larry Niven who is the author of the sci fi story Ringworld along with quite a few other very successful books. Apparently the man is a god in the field of science fiction, which kind of made me feel a bit guilty since I was unfamiliar with his work. He was a very nice guy though and hopefully he didn't pick up on my ignorance.

I played in my first vampire LARP as my Malkavian m to f transexual Alexis. It was fun playing as her again even if I had to tweek her stats a bit to fit into the LARP instead of the dice game, but it worked out well I think, and I got to walk around the hotel acting like I was invisible (not at all an odd thing at a sci fi con), while searching for an evil fleshcrafting vampire villain that would make any vampire in twilight soil their emo pants off. It was actually a philosophical dilemma for Alexis. She desires the use of the fleshcrafting skill (or Vicissitude as it's called) to change her true male body into a female one, instead of using Obfuscate to project a female image to those who see her. However when one of the fleshcrafting vampires victims was shaped into a grotesque (to say the least) parody of an anime school girl it sent Alexis into a near frenzy state. Seeing such a perversion of her dream in front of her eyes was so offensive she lost her mind (well lost more of it then usual) for a few minutes. When she recovered her senses she vowed that the creator of such a perversion of what could be a beautiful art form must die and she really joined the group in actively searching for the villain. I wont go too much into the rest but the good (or rather less evil) guys won in the end, and Alexis left the hotel to continue her search to perfect her femininity.

Well moving on from the LARP I scored some awesome fairy stuff in the dealers room. I spent too much money but honestly I kind of expected to do this, and well I loved what I got so I'll live I'm sure.

I got a beautiful fairy statue, a small jewelry box (I guess) which has a really pretty blue haired fairy pictured on it (maybe I can put coins in it or something). I got a great fairy T-Shirt that was actually in men's sizes (yes t-shirt makers, men like fairies too so learn from the company that made this one). And I got a fairy themed tarot deck to assist me in writing my novel-to-be. I didn't buy this but [info]makkabee gave me some old Doctor Who tapes and a DVD of one of the best Doctor Who stories (The Five Doctors). I'll have to look through these and see what I got now :).

Lastly I got to try goat meat at an Indian buffet for the first time. It was actually quite tasty too. I didn't know it was goat until after I had eaten a bunch of it. It tastes like seasoned beef I thought.

All in all a great time and I got to see some old friends I hadn't seen in a long time. That was nice :)

I hope it isnt true
One of my favorite movies from my childhood is "The Adventures of Milo and Otis"

I have recently heard some disturbing rumors about animals (mostly cats) being seriously injured and/or killed during the making of this movie.

I researched this a bit (checking places like Snopes and Wiki and other places I found on a google search) just now and I can't find any conclusive evidence that it either did or didn't happen. I admit the cliff jumping scene in the movie has always made me wonder about this as it looks like a real cat falling into the ocean from a very high height. It would be hard to do that scene in the 80's and make it look as real as it does with a fake cat.

If anyone out there has any more information on this please let me know. I don't want my memories of this movie ruined, but I would prefer to know the truth about it.

more book help
for an upcoming scene in my story there is a tarot card reading. I don't really know how these readings work and I want the scene to be authentic so if anyone knows of a site that explains what all the cards mean and in what positions and all that please let me know.

I can't pay for the site either so it would need to be free. I don't need an in-depth study, just a simple overview would work.

Fading question
I got these two anime maid girl dolls, statues, figures, whatever you want to call them on top of my computer monitor. Most mornings from about 8-9 they have a bar of sunlight shining on them. It moves down words during the hour so it's not in the same spot for very long. Is this going to fade them or not?

I need to know if I should move them elsewhere or not. Anyone know?

Video Games an Art
I know this has been argued before but I figure I'll give my two cents on it. Remember I consider myself to be a writer even if I am somewhat of an amateur at it at the moment.

I can easily see video games being considered an art form in the same way literature is considered art. It's true there is a lot of bad out there, but there are some games that have stories in them that I can easily rank with classic fantasy novels. For example I could easily see a movie being made of the stories in the later final fantasy games, or other RPGs such as Skies of Arcadia, the Chrono series (Trigger, Cross), and though Ive not played them there is also the Starocean series I hear good things about. Movies made from these games could easily be as epic as the lord of the rings movies. It's unfortunate that video games with less movie worthy plotlines are made into movies. One cant forget the horrible Super Mario Bros. move, or that godawful streetfighter movie. It's because of this that the games with movie length plots, or even movie series length plots are ignored, and the ones that are not ignored tend to get directors and producers who totally screw them up which happens to books as well.

Also one cant ignore the music in games. The game Secret of Mana for SNES is one of the best examples I can think of. I dislike playing the game, but the music in it is amazing, and could easily be preformed on stage. It's easily as good if not better then music I've heard from opera and other forms of theater, but because it's used on such a "childish" medium it's ignored by music critics. If you were to have a serious music critic listen to these songs without telling the source it's highly likely they would love it, the question is would they still love it after the source is revealed. I doubt it.

For everyone who doesn't agree with me I ask you to take a look at some of the stories, and listen to some of the music and you will see that I have a valid argument.
